Authentic Portuguese cuisine in Hong Kong tends to get conflated with Macanese food... of course, they are related, but by no means the same. Casa Lisboa has always known the difference, and built its reputation around it. Having held its ground as one of Hong Kong's most committed Portuguese dining destinations for nearly two decades, it has built a reputation on one simple but powerful promise: true flavours, no detours.

We were lucky enough to experience the restaurant's newly launched lunch set menu, and on a Wednesday afternoon, Casa Lisboa was full. With every table taken, the hum of conversation filled the room, and before we reached our table, we already had the sense that we were somewhere that people genuinely want to be. The space itself is a warm invitation. Following recent renovations, the interior is distinctly Portuguese: pops of blue, carefully chosen artwork, and traditional tiles alongside the open kitchen and walls. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame the historic architecture of Tai Kwun next door, creating a pairing of old and new that feels especially special. The service matched the setting, attentive and genuinely warm.
We began with a house glass of white wine (HKD$80) and a passionfruit lemonade (HKD$48), before moving through a spread of small bites: red prawn carpaccio (HKD$80), tangy in the best way possible, accompanied by a side of fresh leafy greens, codfish cakes (HK$70), perfectly fried with a smooth and soft filling served alongside a wonderful garlic mayo sauce with a citrus zing, incredibly moreish thanks to the fish-potato ratio, and 36-month aged Iberico ham (HKD$90) served with figs, honey and a balsamic glaze, with the sweet elements cutting through the sharp saltiness of the aged ham in the best way. We couldn't think of a better way to start lunch! The octopus salad and confit tuna belly salad followed, both dressed with the same signature flavours that run through Casa Lisboa's kitchen: olive oil, brightness and simplicity. The tuna belly, gently confit with white wine and lemon, is worth a mention for the story behind it! What is traditionally a humble home-style Portuguese dish, Salada de Atum, is given a more refined treatment at Casa Lisboa, using fresh belly rather than canned.
For mains, the slow-roasted suckling pig is the dish that the restaurant is known for, and rightly so. Chef Rodolfo Vicente carefully selects the meat and marinates it for a full day (following an ancient Bairrada recipe), then grills it for no less than three hours until the skin is unbelievably crisp, and the meat impossibly tender. The accompanying rice, cooked with suckling pig liver and chouriço, is full of flavour and exceptional on its own. A tip that the restaurant gives is to brush a little of the orange slice against the pork before eating, allowing the citrus to further elevate the flavours. We also tried the fish of the day, salmon served with a delicate spinach sauce, which was lighter, but no less considered. The salmon was cooked incredibly well, and we were left thinking about it for the whole day. (I'm smiling as I write this...)
Dessert brought traditional Portuguese saw-dust pudding, sweet and simple and full of nostalgia, as well as the most endearing mini pastel de natas, alongside a delicious strawberry ice cream, bringing our lunch to a wonderful and sweet end.
The new lunch set is priced at HKD$268 per person for three courses, with a selection of over 20 classic Portuguese dishes to choose from. Add-on appetisers, including the garlic octopus and Bacalhau à Braz, are available at special lunch prices and are well worth exploring if your table has the appetite.
