Wellcome Turns Back Time With a Nostalgia Concept Store in Yau Ma Tei

For generations, Wellcome has been part of Hong Kong's beating heart. This month, the homegrown supermarket invites locals and visitors alike to step back in time with its first Hong Kong nostalgia concept store in Yau Ma Tei. Located at the Prosperous Garden branch opposite the Old Yau Ma Tei Police Station, the refreshed space honours the city’s retail heritage of the 1950s to 1970s, blending retro visuals, photo moments, and curated souvenirs into an experience that goes beyond shopping.
It all begins at the neon-inspired storefront, where glowing LED signage and mirrored tiles echo the pulse of classic Hong Kong streets. Step inside and an old-school turnstile ushers you into a time tunnel shaped by tender details: red plastic lamps glowing overhead, a retro television waiting for selfies, and vintage grocery scenes sitting alongside familiar street signs. Every corner offers a quiet moment of recognition, tapping into memories the city holds close, even for those who never lived through that time.
Shoppers can also take home a piece of history. A limited-edition Wellcome Retro Eco Bag, inspired by the iconic red and yellow carrier bag, is available for redemption at HKD$28 with a HKD$100 spend. Throughout February, the store also features exclusive collaborations, including a mini red SMEG Lifebox container and a Lunar New Year Lucky Set created with local favourite Goods of Desire.
Old favourites return to the shelves at Wellcome, with a dedicated souvenir zone showcasing Hong Kong classics such as Dragon’s Beard Candy, Wah Yuen Ding Ding Candy, Young Master Salted Lime craft beer, and Lee Kum Kee XO Sauce. Shoppers can also enjoy Coca Cola in glass bottles, as well as a limited-time warm Vitasoy glass bottle edition, complete with an in-store photo wall. To make the experience even more memorable, spend HK$80 or more on Lee Kum Kee products for a spin at the capsule machine and win a miniature magnet (available until 31 March 2026), or purchase a Colgate Hong Kong Signature Toothbrush, or spend HK$68 on Colgate products, to receive a blind box featuring a local landmark collectible (available until 2 April 2026).
